Rare antique pewter pax board with handle.
19th century.
Paxes or osculatories were used in the Middle Ages and Renaissance for the kiss of peace in the Catholic Mass. 
Jesus on the cross is represented in the center of a very ornate frame. Mary and probably John are at his feet.
There is a small loop and small square with a hole at the bottom at the back of the plaque, suggesting the plaque had a different purpose initialy. The handle was added later. It holds perfectly well but it wasn't attached in the neatest way.
Marks and imperfections commensurate with age and use such as stains, discolouration, small chips and scratches. 
A small part of the frame was broken.
This is the first time I find a pax board as they are really difficult to come by!

- I aim to post everything in 3 working days. Everything is sent with a tracking number.
Parcels will require a signature at the time of delivery.

- I will only ship to the address provided during checkout. I won't post to an address sent in a separate message after a purchase.

- A part of the shipping price includes recycling taxes and packaging material.
Everything is packaged safely sometimes using recycled materials.

- I can’t predict how long Customs may hold on to items for inspection.

- If a parcel arrives damaged, it is the buyer's responsibility to file a complaint immediately with the delivery service. Any insurance is void unless this is done at delivery time.


RETURNS AND REFUNDS

- If there is anything you are unsure about or if you need further information about an item to re-assure you please ask before buying. I aim to provide as much information as possible and make my listings as accurate as I can.

- I accept returns only if the buyer contacts me within 2 weeks of delivery. Only the item price can be refunded. Postage costs will not be refunded.
If a returned item is received damaged the loss in value will be deducted.

- Refunds will be issued when I get the item back.
