French antique Joan of Arc at the coronation of Charles VII (as written in French on the base). She is in armor and is holding her banner in one hand and her sword in the other. Her helmet and gloves are at her feet.
The statue is after Louis Moreau and we can see his signature near one of Joan's foot ('L. Moreau').
Louis Moreau was born in 1855 and came from a family of reknowned sculptors.
Early 20th century.
The statue is made of silver metal (possibly iron) and was beautifully patinated. The colour is not even and some gold or bronze colour can be seen in places.
The pole of the banner is inserted in a small hole at the bottom and can be removed. It will be packed separately for shipping as it will be safer. It is rare on such statues to have the original banner and sword.
The title is on a small plaque that has been scratched. The writing has faded.
There are several breaks or accidents and imperfections:
- the top of the sword is broken as can be seen in a close-up photograph. It still holds well for the moment.
- the sword scabbard is detached from the statue at the top but still attached at the bottom.
- there is a break on the side of the glove between the two feet and one around the foot on the right. It was probably caused by the end of a screw next to them. The screw comes from underneath and went through the metal.
- there is a small piece inside the statue that can be heard when moving it. It might be because of the screw or it might be a piece from the base. The statue seems to have been mounted on the marble base at a later date and not by a professional.
- There are scratches and small imperfections. One very large scratch is visible on a shoe and one on a glove. One small chip on her clothes.
- rust marks in places (hair, neck or hands for instance) and stains on the metal (dark one but also white marks at the bottom). The surface of the metal is not smooth at the bottom.
The statue is screwed to a marble base (one screw in the centre). The base has chips, scratches and stains.
The stone has lost its shine in large places.
This is a rare piece especially in such a large size.
Total height: approx. 67.5 cm / 26.37 inches
Weight  5.1 kilograms.
The pictures are part of the description.
