Beautiful painting of a Christian procession in Brittany, France. That type of procession is called a 'pardon'. Pardons are specific to Brittany and over 1000 are celebrated each year. Some are large pilgrimages like the one in Auray and some are very small and happen in villages.
A pardon is organised on a fixed recurring date, in a specific place and is dedicated to a specific Saint. The pardon includes a mass and an outdoor procession to a sacred place following a determined route.
The pilgrims are dressed in traditional Breton costumes.
On this painting, 5 ladies are depicted in traditional costume on a very grey day. One is holding a procession banner. They are walking in the grass and between tall rocks (menhirs).
The painting is very worn and stained at the edges. The paint is damaged at the bottom. It must have been removed from a frame judging by the shape of the damage.
Some stains and scratches are visible. The paint is cracking in places.
It is signed but I can't quite read the name as it has faded.

RETURNS AND REFUNDS

- I accept returns only if the buyer contacts me within 2 weeks of delivery. Only the item price can be refunded. Postage costs will not be refunded.
If a returned item is received damaged the loss in value will be deducted.
