Antique French large embroidered pannel to be hung in a Catholic church.
The central crucifix and the curling floral forms are stitched silver grey wool with metallic decorative thread at the edges.
The background is made of black combed wool which is both soft and absorbs light.
The decorative borders have silver threaded ribbon. Some sections have silver threaded tassels.
Backing is plain black cotton.
The top edge has 6 metal loops stitched into the fabric (spaces indicate 3 are missing).

Some small storage stains to the black wool as well as some micro holes. One corner is a little damaged. Some of the metallic thread has frayed.
There are some small tears around the loops on the back, one of which is quite weakly attached. The loops have oxidised with time.

Manufacturer label in one corner at the back: L. Dublé in Nantes.
Mid 20th century.
