Antique St Therese of Lisieux recumbent statue plaster replica
Antique St Therese of Lisieux recumbent statue replica. First half of the 20th century.
The original statue is in a shrine that contains St Therese relics in the Carmel of Lisieux. I have written about it in my blog here.
Made of moulded plaster that has been hand-painted.
It is hollow but still very heavy.
A little plaque underneath from the "office central de Lisieux" (OST with a shooting star and the word 'Déposé').
It is still beautiful but is not pristine.
There are chips to the paint as seen in the photographs.
Some scratches and stains.
The lighter colours have a light grey patina that I couldn't clean.
There are white marks on the paint mostly visible on the brown and black parts as the statue was left exposed to dust for a long time.
St Therese has one finger missing and there are two chips on the flower she is holding. I couldn't see any other breaks or cracks.
This is an extremely rare piece. I had never seen such a replica before.
It is still in good condition considering its age and size.
Length 48.8 cm / 18.89 inches
