Beautiful red velvet and gold painted metal wall crucifix. 
The larger cross is made of wood that was covered with red velvet. The velvet is worn in places. The smaller metal cross is most probably not the original one as it has a large loop at the top. It was nailed (and maybe glued) to the velvet.
The velvet crucifixes are usually from the late 19th century. The backing of those crosses was made of paper. It is often very damaged.
The back has been completely re-done by a previous owner with a dark yellow fabric and nails. A new loop was attached with a small piece of leather. Several little stains.
Stains, scratches and small corrosion spots to the metal. Gold paint is gone in places.
I could be all wrong as the velvet cross could have been made in the style of the 19th century crosses by a previous owner and not restored as I explained.  I can't tell which story is the right one! It is truly a beautiful and very unique object!
