French antique church banner made of cotton and painted or coloured adhesive paper. From a convent in the south of France.
This one has a large cross in its centre (called Jerusalem cross at the back).

The top of the banner is a solid wooden bar sewn into the fabric.
One metal loop attached at the top.

I have many other banners from the same convent. Most of them will have an inscription in ink at the back to identify the motif and the partly erased stamp from the convent.

Imperfections, such as stains, creases or holes, commensurate with age and use are to be expected:
- the paper is peeling or is damaged in places
- the loop that is on most banners at the top has made holes or damages when the banner was rolled and stored.
- staining
- small holes and wear
- asymetrical / irregular design
- metallic paint has corroded
- creases and damage at the bottom because they were in stotage for a long time.
