Cherub plaster statue for money collection placed in the Nativity scenes arranged by Catholic churches in France. Late 19th / early 20th century.
His head moves to say thank you when a coin is placed in the slot. 'Un petit sou, Jésus vous le rendra' which translates as 'A little coin, Jesus will give it back to you' is written on the base.
Drawer that can be open from the back to get the coins. It is possible to add a small padlock.
These cherubs are really rare now, especially in working order!
Some brown paint / gum (?) was added around its neck to prevent further cracking of the paint because of the movement. Couple of little stains on the face. Small chips but nothing too serious. Look carfully at the photographs and video as they are part of the description.
Height: 28 cm / 11 inches Base: 14 x 16.5 cm / 5.5 x 6.29 inches
