Rare set of the 4 side pannels of an antique procession canopy. One side shows the Lamb of God, another one the Pelican feeding its chicks, another the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the last one the initials IHS.
Some sequins are missing as the stitches of the halos have broken in many places. The appliques and ribbons are in good condition with very little faults. The cannetilles are mostly in good condition.
The cream cotton backgrounds have a slight shine that gives them a silky appearance. They are stained as can be seen in the photographs and have occasional damage such as small holes. Same for the white cotton backing. It is stained and has larger holes from heavy use.
Each pannel has a beige cotton stripe stitched at the top. It is unstitched in large parts as seen in the photographs. There are small metal loops at the back. Some are missing.
This is a beautiful and very rare set!
Each pannel (including cannetilles) measures 96 x 43 cm / 37.79 x 16.9 inches The central motifs including the halos measure approx. 27 x 38 cm / 10.6 x 14.96 inches
