Beautiful representation of the Pieta in plaster. Late 19th / early 20th century. Mary has Jesus leaning against her. She holds his head with one hand and his hand with the other one. Her face pressed against his forehead.
It is quite a large statue and was probably displayed in a church or chapel. It is gone very grey or yellow in places but I haven't attempted any cleaning (apart from some dusting). I find this time patina stunning! Some very small chips, scratches and stains commensurate with age. Jesus has a broken foot as can be seen in the photographs. Mary has ome toes missing. Three larger chips on the robe of Mary nad the base at the back.
The base was painted brown but the paint has faded and some corners are worn so have become white.
A fantastic find at such a scale! It is very heavy (4.7 kilos!), hence the postage price.
