French antique church banner made of cotton that has a slight shine on one side. The decorations are made of gold painted paper bonded to the material. The central white oval motif is made of white cotton that has been sewn on. The top of the banner is a solid wooden bar sewn into the fabric. A white string to hang it has been tied around the bar, puncturing the fabric as can be seen in the photographs.
Small imperfections, such as small stains or holes, commensurate with age and use are to be expected. The paper is peeling in places. I have many other banners from the same convent. Most of them will have an inscription in ink at the back to identify the motif and the partly erased stamp from the convent.
First half of the 20th Century.
