Napoleon III style black wood oval frame with domed glass with human hair decoration.
Beautiful composition. Dated 1st October 1859 (in French) and has the initial E.

Cross and chalice in the centre. The cross is made of hair. The chalice is painted .

Leaf decoration all around made of hair and with painted details. One small piece was detached and is 'stuck' to the glass now. Another one is raised and very loose- it may detach during transport.

The frame has some small faults as can be seen in the photographs.
Backed with black paper (slightly damaged) and ready to hang!

Label at the back with the name of the shop it originally comes from in Le Mans. A. Belin was a 'dessinateur en cheveux' (someone who draws with hair).

Another label with handwriting in French indicates who the hair belonged to: Emont Pierre-Constant-François born on the 1st February 1809. Ordained priest in 1833. It then details is career until his death in 1859.

14.3 x 12.3 cm / 5.5 x 4.7 inches
