Rare antique shadow box frame from a French catholic church or chapel. 19th century.
It was used to display small relics and reliquaries. It has small hooks inside to attach small objects.
The video was filmed with direct sunlight on the frame whether the photographs are taken near a window on a grey day. 
This is an antique piece that was heavily used so it is far from pristine. Please, read the complete description.
 
The wood has been painted with gold paint over a dark orange paint and gesso. 
The decor and flowers around the frame have some damages and parts are missing as seen in the photographs.
The gold paint has corroded in places, faded in others. It has some stains and scratches. 
Some breaks and cracks in the gesso so the surface is not even.
The white gesso and orange are visible in places.
A cherub face and cross are mounted at the top.
There are small holes from insects that have long gone (I have treated the wood to be sure).
Breaks at the bottom of the cross but it still holds well with at least two pins (it can move slightly though).
It opens at the back with two hooks and loops. There is a small loop to hang the frame on the wall.
The wood around one hinge is very damaged so it really needs to be handled carefully. It was repaired once it seems but it will still need another repair.
The colour of the paper has faded and the paper is not stuck evenly. That come from the fact it was on a wall in a cold and maybe humid environment for a long time. Tears around the edges as they are getting detatched.
The glass has some small imperfections, marks and scratches.
 
This is a stunning and extremely rare object that will need a bit of care. I have only dusted it and treated the wood.

It weighs approx. 1.7 kilograms.
