French antique set of 12 plates depicting the stations of the cross. Montereau stamp underneath (barely visible). Mid to late 19th century.

The set is complete with 12 plates but not all the stations are represented and one plate has a different border. It is the right one (number 6) but comes from a slightly different set from the same maker. The plates all have the model number 20 underneath but the different one has the number 21.

All texts are in French but here are the translations.

Plate 1: Jesus is condemned to death

Plate 2: Jesus is given the cross,

Plate 3: Jesus falls the first time

Plate 4: Jesus meets His Mother

Plate 5: A saint woman wipes the face of Jesus

Plate 6: The Cyrenean helps Jesus

Plate 7: Jesus console the holy women

Plate 8: Jesus is stripped of his garments

Plate 9: Jesus is nailed to the cross

Plate 10: Jesus dies on the cross

Plate 11: Jesus' body is removed from the cross

Plate 12: Jesus is laid in the tomb

The second and third fall were not included in the set.

The plates have been heavily used and it is visible.

There are scratches from knives on all of them.

Imperfections in the transfer (black marks and fade).

The images are not perfectly in the centre. This more obvious on some plates than others.

Marks and stains.

The edges are rough to the touch as there are some chips in the glazing.

Some chips in the glazing under one plate and tiny chips here and there. Nothing too serious and no crack I could see.

They are all very scratched underneath.

Diameter: 21 cm / 8.26 inches

The pictures are part of the description.
