Rare antique wooden church clapper used as an alternative to an altar bell. It is made of two shaped wooden parts hinged in the middle. They make a noise when slapped together.
It was used during mass to give signals to the altar boys and when incense was used.
Late 19th / very early 20th Century.
The hinge has rusted and small breaks  in the wood as can be seen in the pictures.
This is a very unusual and hard to find church antique!

Size (folded) 15.3x8.8x3.2 cm / 6x3.14x1.18 inches
