French antique Our Lady metal holy water font. It is attached to a wooden plaque covered with velvet .
Late 19th century.
 
The metal was once painted gold but the colour has almost completely faded.
The recipient has been heavily used and the metal has white marks inside. Some traces of blue paint that was lining the inside are still visible.
Some marks and imperfections commensurate with age and use such as scratches or tarnish marks.
The velvet is worn and discoloured and stained in places. 
The pile goes in different directions but it is still in fairly good condition for its age. It was probably blue originally but it is now mostly green with a bit of grey or blue.
The pile is gone is small places.
A loop at the back to hang.
The paper backing is a bit damaged from use and stained.
 
This is a beautiful piece despite the imperfections.
